What is your impression of HK style’s tea coffee house (Cha Chan Ting)? My impression is delicious food along with horrid dining environment and service. Sometimes you just got to pick your battles when it comes to Cha Chan Ting. 新香園 (堅記) is one of Cha Chan Ting which prove scramble is very famous in Hong Kong. The beef and egg toast is what people come for; it was filled with moist minced beef in gravy in the form of a messy omelette.
2 添好運點心專門店 Tim Ho Wan, the Dim-Sum Specialists
The chef worked in four season hotel for many years; he established this shop to selling high quality dim sum with low price. If you are not rich and want to eat high quality dim sum, you should go to Tim Ho Wan because this restaurant awarded one Michelin star in 2010. Their signature dishes are barbecued pork bun, rice noodle roll and pan-fried carrot cake.
3 公和荳品廠 Kung Wo Tofu Factory
A charming 50 years old shop of a brand established in 1893, Kung Wo wears its name proudly in red clerical script. Regulars come for fresh soymilk, pan-fried tofu and sweet tofu pudding, made the traditional way form beans ground by using a hand-operated millstone. The silky tofu has nutty notes, and the hue is off-white.
4 八仙餅家
Opened 40 years ago,八仙餅家 is a traditional Chinese bakery in Sham Shui Po. It currently has a repertoire of more than 30 varieties of Chinese snacks and biscuits, such as Wife Cakes, Eggrolls, Almond biscuits, Assorted Chinese Sweet Crispies, etc. I appreciate this bakery’s staff take pride in traditional baking techniques. All of the baking process is hand make by their staffs, so that many people will buy their moon cake on mid-autumn festival.
5 琉金穗月Café Golden
The Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) is a multi-disciplinary artists’ centre which renovated and revitalized from Shek Kip Mei Flatted Factory Building. Many studios are closed on weekdays, but the cafe is opened on regular hours. It is an Italian-style cafe serving simple western cuisine, such as espresso, Cappuccino, Sandwiches, snacks, etc. As their baristas were well trained, all of drinks with coffee are taste good. So you must need to order coffee in café Golden. And don’t miss the cake to go with the coffees.
