As a foodie, I think Sham Shui Po is a good place for people eat local style’s food such as BBQ pork bun, pork liver noodle and Chinese biscuits. Those restaurants are very traditional and the food prices are very reasonable. If you always go to large chain of restaurants, highly recommend you visit Sham Shui Po and you will feel warmth in those restaurants.

Although I was lived in Sham Shui Po, I didn't know that Sham Shui Po is full of history and culture and I couldn't even realise that there are so many cultural heritage nearby.  Everyone's attention was just being drew by its old and poor appearance. It is of course true that poverty should be the most important matter to deal with immediately. But if we use a different angle, there can be another view. The place was just so old that cultural heritage can be perserved so naturally between streets and streets.  I found Sham Shui Po a vaulable place in Hong Kong.

Sham Shui Po is known to be the poorest area in Hong Kong. It has the highest number of drug consumption, crime and prostitution. This sounds terrifying, but here is Hong Kong, one of the safest cities in the world, so there is probably no more crime in Sham Shui Po than there is in the safest district of England where I lived before.

Poverty strikes me regularly in this neighborhood, but what I find the most heartbreaking is old people looking for used cans in the trash to sell them 10 cents each. In fact, those old people live on the government allowance of $2285 per month or CSSA which is hardly enough to survive. The problem may even reach a hearing at national government level.

I hope the government can just do something to help the people really in need to just live like a human.

Although Sham Shui Po is the highest rate of poverty in Hong Kong, it still find different touching stories there. After searching and site visiting there, I was surprised that people there are always wearing smiles. They know that their life conditions may be hard, but they also understand they have a hope. The hawkers just want to try their best to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

“Live with attitude” is what I found in Sham Shui Po. Although life is hard, you can still choose how you face the difficulties. The most valuable thing I had learnt from them is never give-up, it is still a sliver line there.

In recent years, because of my work, I started shopping in Sham Shui Po. (Buying large quantities of small toys or stationery for children for reward purposes). If not, my destinations must be shopping malls in Tsim Sha Tsui or Causeway Bay. However, I gradually discovered the merits of shopping here. They are amazement and encouragement.

It is amazing because I may find some unique accessories, clothes or even antique in this pleasingly chaotic. Seems like a treasure hunt, but do not spend too much. Encouragement is found from the selling of the second-hand computers or electronics in Apliu Street Flea Market. Most of the peddlers there are old people, but they try their best to repair the electronics to earn their living. I can feel their thrift and diligence which encouraging me to learn from them and be hard- working in my job.

Let’s experience in the working-class neighborhood of Sham Shui Po and gain the merits.
