Sham Shui Po : The poverty district

 

 

As Sham Shui Po was one of the earliest developed areas in Hong Kong, it was the highest ratio of poverty resident in Hong Kong. According to the "Hong Kong Poverty Situation Report 2012", a district with the highest poverty rate is Sham Shui Po (25.9%). However, it is the best place to find about “Hong Kong Spirit” or “Lion Rock Spirit”.They may be survivors against the disrupting problems.

In Apliu Street, you might not see the latest electronics, but what you see is the greatest “story of life” there.

 

Each night the central streets of Cham Shui Po will become one of the largest flea markets in Hong Kong. After 10 at night, the government hawker control off the duties. Unlicensed hawkers will bring their “goods”, like second hand wares, to operate their “shops”.They will take care each other, and they do not exist in competitive atmosphere. The Hawkers there are more likely to share their life-stories if you make the first step to talk to them.

Hong Kong has a high inflation, it is common to see every things had been updated a higher prices. However, in Pei Ho street, there is one restaurant insists not to make up the price. The behind reason is “I don’t want people even cannot afford for a meal”, the restaurant owner Ming Gor said. Ming Gor’s restaurant is not aim at making the highest profit, but for people with low income.
